Houston and North Texas:
Join us for a STEM extravaganza this month!

Girlstart has hit the road to bring Houston and North Texas a day of science exploration. We’ll have 10 activities, including augmented reality, LED bracelets, one of the world’s smallest robots, homemade instruments, and stomp rockets. All activities are family friendly, free, and open to all ages. As participants work their way through different stations, kids and parents alike will learn that STEM is everywhere (and really cool!). See you there!

Hands-On Wednesday: DIY Quicksand

Observe how the properties of water turn cornstarch into an imitation of quicksand in this activity.  Only cornstarch and water are needed to make an interesting mixture that is actually considered a ‘suspension’ because the cornstarch is finely distributed within the water. Play around with the suspension to see how it reacts to slaps, pokes, or being stirred with a spoon. Be sure to clean up after – this quicksand can get messy!
