Austin Girls in STEM Conference Postponed

Thank you again to everyone that was helping to make our 15th Annual Austin Girls in STEM Conference, scheduled for April 18, 2020, meaningful for our girls.

Following the City of Austin and the CDC’s guidelines concerning COVID-19, we have decided to postpone this year’s conference. While we do not know when we would reschedule, or if it’s possible to do so, we will be sure to keep you updated as soon as we have news to share.

While we are sad to have to postpone, we know it is in the best interest of our participants, presenters, volunteers, parents, staff, and community at large. With that being said, we are working to create more resources for you, and for your family, online during this challenging time. Even though we need to keep ourselves and others healthy, it doesn’t mean that we all can’t keep learning. That’s why we will be increasing our virtual programming, and we will be sharing more about this soon. Parents of registered participants should have received an email on Monday, March 16th. If you have not received communication from Girlstart please reach out to camps@girlstart.org.

After School Statement

At this time, unless we hear from a specific school district that they are canceling after school programming, Girlstart will continue to provide our after school clubs. The current statistics, which we know are changing quickly, state children have not been shown to be a high-risk group for serious illness from the COVID-19 virus. Additionally, Girlstart’s after school program is a positive and fun outlet that our girls can look forward to during this time.

Please visit your specific district or county for the most updated information regarding out of school time programming.

Girls in STEM Statement

At this time, Girlstart is moving forward with our annual Girls in STEM Conference. The current statistics, which we know are changing quickly, state that children have not been shown to be a high-risk group for serious illness from the COVID-19 virus. However, we are working with our host district and following all the recommended guidelines regarding hygiene, travel, and other considerations in order to make informed decisions. We will continue to closely monitor federal, state, and local guidelines regarding the virus and adjust our plans if needed.

Girlstart understands new information is coming out daily/hourly regarding COVID-19 and we will continue to keep our families updated. We acknowledge the uncertainty at this time. If you would like to cancel your daughter’s registration for a full refund, please contact camps@girlstart.org

We plan to send another communication on COVID-19 within the next two weeks. Girlstart knows the importance of providing kids with unique opportunities to look forward to, especially during this challenging time, and we hope our conference will provide such an opportunity.
