Celebrate Spring Break with Girlstart and Discovery Green with five fun-packed days for the whole family. Girlstart’s Discovery
How to participate:
1. Gather your materials in advance!
2. Register on Discovery Green’s website to receive a daily activity email or access the hands-on activities directly on their site (available at 9:00am daily).
3. Get outside, grab some friends or family, and enjoy hands-on STEM fun!
Monday, March 15h
Flying Dragonfly: Flight of the dragonfly! Channel your inner entomologist to learn about the magnificent dragonfly and its special flying abilities as you create your own mimicking flying device.
Tuesday, March 16th
Solar Water Purifier: Can you use the power of the Sun to purify water?! Explore how to harness solar energy to turn undrinkable, salty water into clean and clear water!
Wednesday, March 17th
Penny Battery: From phones to lights to toys, batteries power many things we use every day! Create an electrochemical reaction between metals and use an electrolyte solution to make your own battery and power an LED.
Thursday, March 18th
Water Strider: Why can some insects skip across the top of a pond? Observe the power of surface tension as you construct a wire water strider and learn the physics of how these “magical” bugs walk on water!
Friday, March 19th
Rainbow Paper: ROYGBIV! Learn how to replicate the colorful pattern you see in bubbles, prisms, and the sky. Become a physicist for the day and create your own rainbow paper!

Get outside! The Rink: Rolling at Discovery Green is open every day March 5 through April 12. Glide beneath the glittering lights of downtown in the center of the beautiful 12-acre park at Discovery Green. Tickets are $12 per person and includes skate rental.
