Thank You DeSTEMber Extravaganza Volunteers

Girlstart kicked off the month of DeSTEMber with our DeSTEMber Extravaganza on Saturday, December 1st in four locations throughout the country: Austin, TX, Boston, MA, Houston, TX, and Sunnyvale, CA.

In total, Girlstart provided free, frosty hands-on STEM fun to over 1300 participants nationally, and close to 100 volunteers led hands-on activities including foam rockets, scribble bots, instant snow, virtual reality, snowflake design, LED holiday decorations, and more. We are so thankful to have such amazing volunteers in all of these locations who took time to engage and inspire kids and their families in STEM.

Thank You Spooktacular Volunteers

On Friday, October 26th Girlstart in partnership with the Bullock Museum hosted it’s popular Spooktacular event. Over 1,000 superheros, lions, witches and wizards joined us as we chunked pumpkins, made slime, played with dry ice bubbles, and enjoyed many more spooky activities.

Close to 50 volunteers were on hand to help setup, lead booth activities, and help inspire kids with hands-on STEM fun. A big thank you to all of them for taking time out of their schedules to join us for this fun and spooky event.

Thank You Girls in STEM Volunteers in Houston

Girlstart hosted it’s first Girls in STEM Conference in Houston, TX on Saturday, September 22nd at Alief Taylor High school. The rain didn’t stop over 200 4th-5th grade girls from attending this one day conference.

Throughout the day, girls attended hands-on workshops led by women from companies such as: ExxonMobil, Acxiom, Jacobs Technologies, Weatherford, Shell, Pape-Dawson, and so many others. A big thank you to the 50+ presenters/co-presenters for sharing their Saturday with us and inspiring girls.

There were also close to 60 volunteers who helped behind the scenes with setting up, checking in girls, monitoring halls, assisting workshops, helping presenters unload and load up their cars, and more. The day wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our amazing volunteers.
