Hoop Glider

December 1, 2020

Meet Irene Chan!

Irene Chan is an aerospace advocate, education enthusiast, and webmaster. Born and raised in the East Los Angeles area, she was fortunate to have mentors, communal support, and opportunities that supported her pursuit of a career in the aerospace industry – despite all the stereotypes that come with being an East Angeleno. Chan received her Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of California, San Diego, and a Master of Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. She is now a flight planning engineer working to ensure that crew and cargo vehicles arrive and depart the International Space Station (ISS) safely while scheduling the flights in a manner that ensures science and other mission objectives are achieved. Chan supports the ISS as a web developer, stowage engineer, and requirements engineer. She participates and holds leadership positions in the local sections of the Society of Women Engineers and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. In her free time, Chan volunteers as the Rotary National Award for Space Achievement Foundation webmaster.

Ready, set, glide! How far can you make your hoop glider straw soar? Discover how aeronautical engineers use forces of flight to design and build airplanes and spacecrafts.
