Meet Meg Gallagher!

Meg Gallagher is a software engineer at Walmart Technology, and her path to this career was not a typical one. She graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in clinical dietetics and spent her first few years after college helping patients with nutritional risks and deficiencies. Though she loved working with patients, she started learning to code on the side and her interest quickly grew. Meg decided to change careers and attended a six-month intensive coding bootcamp where she learned full-stack web development skills and practices. Upon completion, she entered the workforce first as a web content developer, and then she broke into the world of true object-oriented programming as a front-end software engineer. Meg currently develops software to help businesses within Walmart more quickly and efficiently search through very large sets of data. This work implements machine learning to predict and highlight data that might be deemed highly important. Meg also has a passion for working within the community and serves as the Women of Walmart volunteer chair, organizing volunteer events for all women within the Texas Walmart Tech offices!

Celebrate Computer Science Education Week, December 7-13, with fun DeSTEMber technology activities! Computer Science Education Week is an annual call to action to inspire K-12 students to learn computer science, advocate for equity in computer science education, and celebrate the contributions of students, teachers, and partners to the field.

Kick off the week with SpriteBox Coding. SpriteBox Coding is a full-blown adventure game that teaches you to code! As you make your way to the finish line in each level, Sprite needs help rescuing his friends along the way! Follow his prompts to learn how to give him directions he can understand to work together to build bridges, ladders, and more so you can free them. Sprite will teach you how to sequence steps and code his instructions so you can both accomplish your goals in this interactive game.
