Tabletop Hovercraft

December 4, 2020

Meet Laura McGill!

Laura McGill is an aerospace systems engineer. She was inspired to study the science of flight by an elementary school teacher who was also a private pilot. She attended many airshows with her family and read about the technical challenges that were overcome in the development of leading-edge air and spacecraft. As a chief engineer of major defense systems, she has led teams of hundreds of engineers and scientists to work together in developing never before demonstrated performance and capabilities. McGill now co-leads Raytheon Missiles & Defense, an organization of 15,000 engineers that creates the sophisticated systems that protect our military service women and men, as well as the U.S. homeland from the threat of missile strikes.

Take a trip to the future! Explore the effects of air flow and friction as you engineer a hovercraft to glide across a table.
