STEM Extravaganza

Celebrate Women’s History Month with Girlstart in partnership with the Bullock Museum. Come explore the unique contributions women have made in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). From hands-on activities to interactive demos, this event is for kids of all ages and genders.

Enjoy FREE exhibition admission all day during H-E-B Free First Sundays, held the first Sunday of every month. Families can explore the Story of Texas through three floors of exhibitions that showcase artifacts from around the state.

Enjoy these hands-on STEM activities:

  • Air Cannons: Engineer your very own air cannon out of a paper cup, balloon, and duct tape. See how far your air cannon will make a pom-pom fly!
  • Bee Hummer: Bzzzzzz! Discover the science behind sounds as you engineer a device that creates air vibrations that sound like a swarm of bees.
  • Drag Racing Spools: Explore mechanical energy by constructing, testing, and modifying a rubber band powered vehicle. Wind up your spool, race your friends, and see how far your vehicle can travel across the ground.
  • Mini Bow and Arrow: Watch potential energy turn into kinetic energy as your arrow launches across the room!
  • Ozobots: Explore robotics, optics, and visual coding with Ozobots! Program your robot using color coding to guide your Ozobot through a maze!
  • Paper Kites: Create a Paper Kite then explore how to make it soar! By learning how to balance the forces of gravity and lift, you will be able to fly your kite with ease.
  • Paper Helicopters: Create a paper helicopter as you learn about the rotors that help it fly!
  • Sound Sandwich: Using craft sticks, rubber bands, and straws to design your very own sound sandwich instrument! Explore how you can change pitch by changing the vibrations, or the wavelengths, of your instrument.
  • Info Booth: A table set up to provide information and resources to the community!
