Girlstart’s STEM Studio and Mini-Planetarium is a unique space for families to explore astronomy! Starry Nights are held the 1st Thursday of every month (except January, June, July and August), with each month featuring a new astronomy experience and related hands-on activities. All ages are welcome to stop by any time between 5:30pm and 7:00pm.

Hands-on activities include:

– Investigate the unique properties of penguin feathers
– Explore structural engineering to create an Inuit “pitauq” lamp stand prototype to light up the room
– Discover how blubber keeps arctic animals warm
– Design a dogsled and program Sphero robots to race your sled through a challenging course

Girlstart’s STEM Studio and Mini-Planetarium is a unique space for families to explore astronomy! Starry Nights are held the 1st Thursday of every month (except January, June, July and August), with each month featuring a new astronomy experience and related hands-on activities. All ages are welcome to stop by any time between 5:30pm and 7:00pm.

Hands-on activities include:

– Discover the relative size of the planets
– Launch satellite prototypes
– Explore the relative distance between our solar system’s planets and the Sun
– Code Ozobot robots to simulate a spacecraft’s path through the Milky Way Galaxy

Thank You Back to School STEM Saturday Volunteers

Girlstart hosted its annual Back to School STEM Saturday event on August 25th at the Girlstart STEM Center in Austin, TX. Over 400 kids and families attended and participated in hands-on activities and demos such as foam rockets, laser blasters, virtual reality, slime, and more.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who attended and helped lead activity booths. Thank you for making this event run smoothly and helping encourage kids in STEM!
