Thank You Girls in STEM Volunteers
Girlstart hosted its 13th annual Girls in STEM Conference on Saturday, March 24th at Travis High School in Austin, TX. 597 girls from across Texas, including Austin, Houston, and Waco, attended this year’s conference. It was a great day filled with amazing stories and smiles on girls faces.
The day consisted of hands-on workshops led by over 130 STEM professionals in various STEM fields such as: engineering, programming, medical, chemistry and more. There were also 171 volunteers on hand to ensure the day was success.
Volunteers and presenters joined us from all walks of life: high school students, college students, past Girlstart participants, parents, teachers, engineers, etc. Thank you all for inspiring and encouraging girls in STEM!

Hands-On Wednesday: Flying Copter
We’ve all seen helicopters flying above us, but have you ever wondered why their propellers spin the way they do? Find out how the direction of air pushing on the blades creates a horizontal thrust in this activity. Practice your aim and have races with your friends using the fun print out here!
