Featuring Lunar Shows

Girlstart’s STEM Studio and Mini-Planetarium is a unique space for families to explore astronomy! Starry Nights are held the 1st Thursday of every month (except January, June, July and August), with each month featuring a new astronomy experience and related hands-on activities. All ages are welcome to stop by any time between 5:30pm and 7:00pm.

Hands-on activities include:

– Design a moon lander prototype to protect astronauts as they land on the moon’s surface
– Launch a straw rocket satellite to orbit the moon
– Explore the moon’s phases and orbit with Ozobot mini robots
– Create a unique constellation sewing card

– Make a device to shoot a ball through a hoop on a Mayan ceremonial ballcourt
– Explore Mayan archaeological sites through Virtual Reality
– Design and create an ancient ceremonial mask
– Construct a replica of an ancient Mayan pyramid

– Explore legendary dragons and reptile adaptations
– Engineer a Chinese multi-tiered pagoda tower

In partnership with Spectrum News and the Bullock Texas State History Museum, we are excited to present WeatherFest. Enjoy hands-on experiments, weather-related films and panels, meet your favorite local meteorologist, and more!

Families will have the opportunity to engineer weather binoculars for cloud viewing, understand the power of air pressure by exploring Bernoulli’s principle, harness the wind to fly a paper kite, discover the wonders behind InstaSnow, and more family-friendly activities!
