Girlstart is continuing to offer Starry Nights at Home for Fall/Winter 2020!

Materials lists for hands-on activities will be posted the Monday before each Starry Night. A virtual star show and activity blogs will be available on the day of Starry!

Enjoy these hands-on STEM activities:

– Design a unique totem pole
– Discover the science behind popcorn
– Make a mini bow and arrow
– Play the Native American stick game

Featuring Mayan Skies Star Shows

Girlstart’s STEM Studio and Mini-Planetarium is a unique space for families to explore astronomy! Starry Nights are held the first Thursday of every month (except January, June, July, and August), with each month featuring a new astronomy experience and related hands-on activities. All ages are welcome to stop by any time between 5:30pm and 7:00pm. RSVP is recommended, however it is not required, to join us.

Reminder: Chaperones are required. Adults must stay with their children throughout the event.

Hands-on activities include:

– Dissect a seed as you discover Mayan crop cultivation techniques
– Program robots to make their way to the top of the Mayan pyramid
– Make a device to shoot a ball through a hoop on a Mayan ceremonial ball court
– Engineer a drag racing spool and learn about Ewy Rosqvist, the first female to participate in and win the Argentine Grand Prix

Discover white tiger genetics through Punnett squares
Design a flying Chinese dragonfly toy
Engineer a chopstick catapult for National Chopstick Day!
