Meet Jennifer Hakala!

Jennifer Hakala is a Senior Software Engineer and Team Lead at Bloomfire in Austin, Texas, and she has over four years of software engineering experience. Hakala specializes in front-end technologies, specifically React, and is also skilled in JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and Redux. Hakala studied communication at the University of Texas and briefly worked in design before transitioning into the tech industry. As a Team Lead, she is curious about the intersection of people and programming, and as a Senior Software Engineer, she is expanding her skills to include backend technologies like Ruby on Rails. When she’s not coding, Jennifer likes to bake, garden, and play with her two cats.

Learn 3D programming with AgentSheetsTM as part of Computer Science Education Week! Through the AgentSheetsTM program, AgentCubes, learn the programming skills for if-then statements, cursor control, movement, loops, collision, diffusion, and more.

Play AgentCubes online for FREE through January 31st with Girlstart’s unique DeSTEMber coupon code.

Click here for the coupon code and instructions on how to set up your account.

Create your own game or follow Girlstart’s guide to code and play our Scrub In Maze challenge. Once you create your game, use these instructions to play:

Can you make it to the hospital in time?! Similar to Pac-Man, use the arrow keys to navigate the ambulance through the streets to reach the hospital (the goal), but you don’t want to be stopped by other cars (challenge) and make sure to collect clocks along the way (challenge). Use the spacebar to change the red stoplights to green so the ambulance can go through quickly!

*AgentsSheetsTM is an in-kind sponsor of Girlstart. We value the work they are doing to teach programming skills to students all over the world.
